A Ledbetter woman was arrested on Sunday following an accident on Kentucky Dam Road. She received additional charges after jail officials found Marijuana in her purse.
According to the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department, around 3:00 pm Sunday, 26-year-old Amanda Abushawish was traveling eastbound on Kentucky Dam Road. As she approached the new US 60 Tennessee River Bridge traffic light, she rear ended 57-year-old Eddie Dunning of Smithland. Dunning was stopped at the light.
According to the woman, she had turned around to check on a child in the back seat and didn’t notice the stopped traffic.
While investigating, deputies discovered that Abushawish’s driver’s licenses were suspended and she had an outstanding warrant. She was taken to a local hospital but decided to leave without treatment. Abushawish was then arrested on the outstanding warrant and taken to the McCracken County Regional Jail.
Upon arriving at the jail, she was found to be concealing marijuana in her purse.
Abushawish was charged with promoting contraband 1st degree, a class D felony, and possession of marijuana, a class B misdemeanor.
The children in Abushawish’s vehicle were uninjured and picked up by a relative.
