The Kentucky State Fraternal Order of Police announced their endorsements of candidates for the November election, and among them was Paducah's Judge Shea Nickell. The current Kentucky Court of Appeals Judge is running for the Kentucky Supreme Court to fill the District 1 seat vacated by Justice Bill Cunningham, who retired.

“Judge Nickell was the obvious choice for our endorsement. His experience is unmatched and he is a man of great character,” says Don English, State Trustee at the Kentucky State Fraternal Order of Police. “With his record of producing over 2800 opinions and only being overturned, in whole or in part, 2% of the time, it is clear that he takes law and order as seriously as we do as police officers.”

This news comes as the organization released endorsements for all constitutional offices up for grabs this election cycle.

"The conversations were largely geared around pensions, improving benefits, and overall safety concerns for police officers in the commonwealth," Drew Fox, the organization's chair of governmental affairs, said in a statement.

Christopher “Shea” Nickell has been an attorney for over 35 years, and has served as an Assistant County Attorney, Assistant Commonwealth Attorney and in private practice.

His opponent in the non-partisan race is attorney Whitney Westerfield of Hopkinsville, who is currently a state senator.

The special election will be held November 5th.
