A fisherman has died after a Thursday afternoon boating accident on Kentucky Lake.

Garry Clark, public affairs officer for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources told the Paducah Sun 51-year-old Timothy Alan Clippard of Jackson, MO, was killed when the motor from the fishing boat he was in broke loose, flew up into the boat and hit him.

Marshall County coroner Mitchell Lee confirmed Clippard's death Thursday night.

According to investigators, the boat’s two occupants were fishing south of Eggner’s Ferry Bridge in a bass tournament based out of Moors Marina. The boaters were heading back around 4:15 p.m. to weigh their catch when the boat’s motor hit an underwater structure that caused it to break loose.

The boat's operator was not seriously injured.
