Troopers at Kentucky State Police Post 1 are asking for donations for their 'Cram the Cruiser' holiday food drive, which continues through Dec. 9.

Each police post in the state is participating. Post 1 Public Information Officer Adam Jones says a cruiser will be parked in front of Post 1 on Highway 45 North in Hickory, and anyone can drop off non-perishable food items in the cruiser or the lobby of the post.

Suggested donations include non-expired canned fruit and vegetables, canned meat, macaroni and cheese, cereal, peanut butter, jelly, canned soups, chili or spaghetti sauce, brownie and cake mixes, coffee, water, powdered milk and juices.

Jones says the items will then be distributed to local families in need.

“All donations that we collect go directly back into those communities,” Jones said. “We donate them to the local food banks. They're also used in our Shop With a Trooper campaign on Dec. 12, where we take kids to Walmart and let them have some Christmas joy.”

Jones said Troopers will hold special collection events at different locations in the Post 1 area between Nov. 25 and Dec. 9. Jones said dates and locations will be announced at a later date. Post 1 will also take part in a special statewide collection event on Sunday Dec. 8 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Kroger store in Murray.

Last year, KSP Post 1 collected 9,250 pounds of non-perishable food items. Jones is hoping to collect more than that this year.
