The storms that hit the area Tuesday night and Wednesday morning are making travel difficult for some.

Keith Todd with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said their traffic crews are swamped by reports of traffic signal outages. In may cases, these signals will remain out of service until electric power is restored at each location. Once power is back on, the signals should go into flashing mode. Some may even reset on their own and resume normal operation.

Traffic personnel are making rounds and attempting to restore signal operations whenever and wherever possible. However, it may be late in the day before power is restored at some locations.

In the meantime, motorists are advised to treat both flashing and dark signals as a 4-Way Stop. Extra caution is advised as any signals damaged by the storm may require substantial repairs before they return to service.

Motorists should continue to be alert for trees, limbs, and other debris on the roadway. We have a report that the storm damaged a signal at the I-24/KY 305 Exit 3 Paducah Interchange.
