Many families have a tradition of cutting their own Christmas tree, and Land Between the Lakes is offering that opportunity again this year.

LBL offers permits to cut a free cedar Christmas tree now through Christmas Eve.

Permits allow the holder to cut one cedar tree under ten feet tall. Trees cannot be cut along the Trace, in specific developed recreation areas, in cemeteries or in timber sale areas. The full list of rules and regulations are available on the reservations page.

Permits, maps and guidelines are available online, and in person at the park’s Administrative Office Monday through Friday.

The park says no matter where you get your tree, be sure it’s fresh and isn’t dry because it could catch fire. Water the tree daily and place away from heat sources. Be sure lights are in good condition.
