LBL Waives Fees Saturday for Public Lands Day
By Land Between the Lakes
GOLDEN POND, KY - Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area is waiving fees at participating day-use facilities on Saturday, September 29, in honor of National Public Lands Day.
General admission to The Homeplace, Woodlands Nature Station, Elk & Bison Prairie, and the Golden Pond Planetarium show at 1pm will be free. Also, Wranglers Campground will waive day-use riding fees.
LBL joins other National Forests and National Parks across the United States in participating in our nation’s largest one-day volunteer event for public lands. Volunteers can participate in a shoreline clean-up or a trail maintenance project.
It is recommended, but not necessary, to call to register for volunteer work early. Registrations should be made by September 27, especially for larger groups. There will be two events taking place that day. The first event is from 9am-3pm: a trail project on the new Central Hardwoods Scenic Trail, meeting at Golden Pond Visitor Center. The second event is from 8am-12pm: a shoreline cleanup at Pisgah Point. Volunteers should bring lunch, a water bottle, and dress for outdoor work. For more information on these projects, visit www.friendsoflbl.org, call 270-924-2007, or email email@example.com.
“Helping Hands for America’s Lands is the 2012 theme for National Public Lands Day,” stated Emily Schmadeke, Volunteer Coordinator for the LBL Association. “This is an inspiring way to celebrate public lands and give back to your favorite places.”
