Kentucky Transportation Cabinet personnel have responded to landslides Wednesday morning in Caldwell and Muhlenberg County.
KYTC Spokesman Keith Todd says the landslides are likely due to soil being saturated by melting snow followed by heavy rain overnight. The landslides have only minor impact on shoulder areas of roadways at this time. Todd said drivers should be alert for similar issues that may develop along roadways and immediately report the specific location to their local 911 call center.
The Caldwell County landslide is along Interstate 69 at the 87.75 mile point. At this time it is limited to the shoulder area and is not hampering traffic. Due to adverse weather conditions the Caldwell County crew will likely wait until after the snow and ice event to remove debris from the ditch line.
The Muhlenberg County Highway Crew responded to a landslide on the Western Kentucky Parkway at mile point 51.4 at about 1:00 a.m. They cleared some minor debris from the roadway at that time. They have restricted the shoulder area at this site until heavy equipment can be brought in to make more permanent repairs after the snow and ice event.
