A Calloway County man has been indicted by a grand jury on 27 counts, including child porn and sex trafficking.

According to United States Attorney John Kuhn Jr.'s office, 37-year-old Jeffrey Desmond Carter of Murray is charged with 25 counts of production of child pornography, one count of receiving child pornography and one count of sex trafficking of children.

Carter was initially charged in a criminal complaint on October 6. According to the complaint, on Feb. 6, 2015, the Murray Police Department was notified that a 14-year-old girl had sent sexually explicit photos and videos of herself to Carter, through a Facebook messenger account under the name of Adam Bryan.

A search warrant on the Facebook account revealed that Carter was using multiple IP addresses and police were able to identify thousands of messenger conversations between Carter and multiple victims.

The complaint states that Carter had several underage girls send him explicit photos over the course of almost two years. Carter allegedly met some of the underage victims and paid them to have sex with him at his home. Carter allegedly video-recorded many of the sexual acts.

The alleged acts took place between March of 2013 and January of 2015.

Carter was charged in Calloway County Circuit Court and currently is in state custody. He faces federal and state charges. The Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney has agreed that the federal case will proceed first.
