One of the state's leading Democrats is expressing interest in a run for governor in 2015 while ruling out speculation that she might run for the U.S. Senate.

Former state Auditor Crit Luallen made the rounds Saturday at the Fancy Farm Picnic, a key political event where generations of politicians have kicked off campaigns.

Luallen, who also served as executive cabinet secretary under former Gov. Paul Patton, didn't commit to a gubernatorial bid. But she said if she does run again, "it would be for governor."

In making the statement, Luallen essentially removed herself from widespread speculation that she might challenge Republican U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell in his 2014 re-election bid.
