MURRAY, KY - Murray may see some film-making activity in October, from a Murray State University graduate.

Edward Dublin, an alumnus of Murray State University, founder of Wasted Life Productions and writer, producer and director, is shooting an independent film called Small Town in Murray. This film will capture Murray State’s campus and local businesses and incorporate Murray’s traditions such as Homecoming to highlight the community’s environment and the film’s inspiration.

Dublin graduated in May 2009 with a bachelor of science in advertising and a minor in organizational communication. In 2006, Dublin was inspired to create a film depicting a loose version of his life and his friends’ misadventures during their college years at Murray State University. After a few rough drafts, Small Town was created and the process of developing the film began this previous summer.

The establishment of Wasted Life Productions, founded by Dublin in Murray, began the transition into creating the independent film and invited multiple people to assist in the process such as his father and producing partner, Steve Dublin and Joshua Lassing, director of photography, along with a production crew from St. Louis and numerous friends and family. The filming of the movie will take place in Murray the second week of October for three to four weeks and will integrate local businesses, Murray State’s campus and other areas in town. Currently, the production team anticipates that the film will be released by 2013 and will be submitted to one of the major festivals for a premiere.

“A lifelong passion for film and the city of Murray inspired me to make this film. It’s where all the events happened that inspired me to tell this story. I have been blessed to have loved ones that not only influence my creativity but support it as well,” Dublin said.

The film is a dark romantic comedy about a boy, David, who has recently graduated and struggling to figure out what to do with his life. During the movie, David and his friends are involved in mishaps and serious subject matters, until he finally meets a girl, Kelly, who introduces him to a brighter future. The theme of the film is to understand the important elements in life such as laughter and love even though there will always be heartbreak and sadness. It is a story of growing up in a small town and trying to find a place in this big world.
