MURRAY, KY - Murray and Calloway County have many celebrities who serve in a variety of roles to better the local community. To support the American Cancer Society and Relay For Life of Murray-Calloway County, these celebs, including Murray State University basketball stars Isaiah Canaan and Ed Daniel, will be serving in a unique way – as waiters.

On Thursday, Aug. 23, in the Curris Center Ballroom, local celebrity waiters such as Chuck Wynn, Tab Brockman, Pat Latimer, Melissa Wynn and Tony Ryan will serve their patrons a dinner of prime rib, baked potato, salad, roll, pecan pie or cheesecake dessert and drink. Tickets are $50 per table seat. Doors open at 6:30 pm and a silent auction will also be held.

Tickets to sit at Canaan’s or Daniel’s tables are currently available for a donation bid with seats going to the highest donation bid. Those interested for a seat at their tables can go on Facebook to the Relay For Life of Murray-Calloway County page or call 270-444-0384.

The bidding will close at noon Tuesday, Aug. 21.

Proceeds from the celebrity waiter event will go to the Relay For Life of Murray-Calloway County and the American Cancer Society to ensure that cancer patients are provided essential programs and services to help save lives and create a world with less cancer and more birthdays.

The American Cancer Society provided more than 54,000 services to Kentucky patients in 2011 from donated dollars, including:

• Answering nearly 8,000 calls to the National Cancer Information Center to provide answers or connect patients or caregivers to local support and assistance; 
• Providing free lodging at Hope Lodge facilities in Nashville, Lexington and Memphis for patients undergoing treatment away from home;
• Providing more than 1,300 patients with transportation assistance including Road To Recovery trips to and from treatment visits; and
• Helping fund 11 research grants totaling $4 million in Kentucky, alone.

With the funds raised through Relay For Life of Murray-Calloway County, other Relay For Life events and events such as the Murray Celebrity Waiter, these and other programs can be provided to more cancer patients.
