A Murray State student was killed Sunday morning after the gun he was handling accidentally fired.
Clayton Law, a Murray State student and Army veteran, died Sunday morning from a gunshot wound to the head. Calloway County coroner Ricky Harris told the Paducah Sun the 23-year-old from Elizabethtown was at 911 North 16th Street when he fired a handgun, shooting himself in the head. Law was pronounced dead at about 1 a.m., Harris said.
Harris said the state medical examiner will perform an autopsy, and the results will be available in about a week.
Murray Police are conducting the investigation.
Mike Young, MSU associate vice president of student affairs, told the Sun the gun fired accidentally when Law showed it to a friend.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday on campus at Wrather Museum.
