Graves County Schools Superintendent Matthew Madding set the tone on opening day for faculty and staff on Wednesday.

Historically, all employees have met in the Eagles’ Nest gymnasium for the occasion. Instead, Madding visited each school, providing greater opportunity for one-to-one and small group interaction after delivering his speech in each location.

This photo shows him addressing employees of Sedalia Elementary School. In the speech, the superintendent, whom the school board hired in May, noted that experts estimate 40 percent of all jobs not already achieved via technology, including robots, will be within 15 years. That includes work that highly trained professionals historically have accomplished.

He said today’s students need to prepare for the workforce by developing knowledge and skills related to communication, collaboration,
creativity, and problem solving, with the ability to consider many different aspects of the problems in question.
