A man was arrested late Thursday night after he led officers on a brief pursuit while riding an ATV.
According to the Graves County Sheriff's Department, a deputy was patrolling in the Wingo and Water Valley areas after complaints of ATVs being ridden on private property without permission. A man was spotted riding north in the southbound lane of US Highway 45 in Water Valley, and the deputy attempted to stop him. The man cut through the parking lot of a church, into a field, and across the yards of several homes.
A Kentucky State Trooper joined the pursuit and the officers spotted the man again on Marshall Avenue. When the rider attempted to flee across a yard, he hit a ditch and wrecked the ATV. After a brief foot pursuit, the man, identified as 36-year-old Joshua French, was taken into custody. He was medically cleared at Jackson Purchase Medical Center and was taken to Graves County Jail.
French was charged with driving an ATV on a highway, fleeing or evading 1st degree on a vehicle, fleeing or evading 2nd degree on foot, and reckless driving. He was also served with a warrant from Fulton County for failure to appear in court.
