Thursday evening on the court square in Benton, a prayer vigil was held to show love and support for those in
Parkland, Florida as a result of the shooting on Wednesday, at Douglas High School, and to continue the healing process
in Marshall County from the similar tragedy that occured on January 23rd.
Vigil organizer and first responder Rachel Lane said they wanted to honor the Marshall County community for their
support, while they extend the same to those in Florida.
Lane said, "We want to show them what we received, because it was so great, and and we also want to tell Parkland
that we know how they're feeling. There's a lot of people that don't, and we do."
The vigil included prayers, music, and words from Marshall County Sheriff Kevin Byars.
"We had other communities that showed compassion, encouraged us, and now it's time for us to pay it forward and
do the same thing for that community down in Florida," Byars explained.
He urged those in attendance to keep praying for Parkland, as well as for Marshall County.
The vigil concluded with the hymn, "What A Friend We Have In Jesus".
