“I have done some things I think the department needed in the last two years,” Henson said. “I think I have improved the department a little bit in the last couple of years and done some things I wanted to do when I took over as chief. Now, it's time to move on and let someone younger have it."
Jeremy Creason, a seven-year veteran
with the department, will take over for Henson on March 1.
"Randy has served us well and we're sad to see him go," said Mayfield Mayor Teresa Cantrell. "We're also excited about Jeremy taking over and leading us forward."
"I really respect him for all his years of service to the city and county," said Graves County Judge-Executive Jesse Perry. "We're going to miss his dedication."
Henson, 54, says he plans to spend more time at home with his wife, Jeannie, who retired last year, and his two grandchildren. His last day on the job is Feb. 29.
