The family resource and youth services centers of the Mayfield and Graves County public school districts recently received an extra $8,000.

Wingo FRC director Mike Duncan said the the cash added up to the total proceeds from the Rafter M. Rodeo Co. presentation on the Mayfield-Graves County Fairgrounds Saturday night, Aug. 26. The money will add greatly to the funds for the Mayfield-Graves County Community Christmas Connection of the Graves County and Mayfield independent school districts.

"Those funds will go a long way toward helping children and families in need to have a merry Christmas," Duncan said. He expressed appreciation for the event's sponsors, whose support made the evening possible.

The rodeo's eight events included back riding, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping. barrel racing. bull riding, and all-around cowboy. Altogether, the rodeo attracted a crowd estimated between 4,000 and 4,500.

"The primary goal of the family resource and youth services centers is to remove nonacademic barriers to learning as a means to enhance student academic success," Duncan explained. "Each center offers a unique blend of programs and services determined by the needs of the populations served, available resources, location and other local characteristics. FRYSCs have established a record of success based on improved student performance in class work, homework and peer relations as reported by teachers. Parents, too, report they experience greater satisfaction and involvement with the schools, resulting from the assistance of their local FRYSC."
