A man faces assault, attempted rape, kidnapping and other charges after police say he cut a woman's throat early Sunday morning at her Graves County home.

The Graves County Sheriff's Office says a 911 call came in at around 2:15 a.m. from a home on State Route 45 in the Pryorsburg area. Deputies said 48-year-old Jason Alexander of Mayfield had attempted to sexually assault a 72-year-old woman, and had cut her throat with a butcher knife. A 13-year-old girl was also at the home.

Deputies later found Alexander in his vehicle on 121 South near Farmington and arrested him. He was booked into the Graves County Jail on charges of first degree assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of kidnapping and two counts of attempted first degree rape.

Both victims were treated for their injuries at Jackson Purchase Medical Center.
