A one-vehicle wreck early Thursday morning in Graves County left a Mayfield man injured and possibly facing charges. According to the Graves County Sheriff's Office, the crash happened just after midnight on State Route 80 at the intersection of Rule Shack Road, near Fancy Farm.

Deputies said a vehicle driven by 27-year-old Robert Carter of Mayfield went through the intersection and off the roadway. Deputies said Carter was traveling at a high rate of speed and went through the intersection without stopping for the posted stop sign.

The vehicle left the roadway, went into a ditch and impacted an earth embankment. The vehicle then came to rest approximately 100 feet north of the intersection.

Carter suffered injuries to his face and back. He was transported to Jackson Purchase Medical Center and later transferred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville for treatment of his injuries.

Deputies said the accident is currently under investigation and charges are expected.
