By Joe Jackson
MAYFIELD, KY - The Paducah Police Department’s bomb squad and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms converged on Mayfield Saturday when a homemade explosive device was found in a storage unit.

Acting on a tip from the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department, the Mayfield Police Department executed a search warrant on a storage unit on Cuba Road at approximately 3 pm Saturday. Once inside the unit, detectives found a homemade explosive device.

The Paducah Police Department Bomb squad was notified and removed several devices from inside the unit. Detectives then re-entered the unit and found containers which contained several items consistent with the manufacturing of methamphetamine. They also found loaded firearms.

Kentucky State Police was notified and disposed of the hazardous material. The investigation is ongoing. Mayfield police say they have a suspect in the case who will face numerous charges.
