A Mayfield woman faces a lengthy list of charges after a high-speed police pursuit that ended with both her vehicle and a sheriff's cruiser catching fire.

Graves County Sheriff Dewayne Redmon says deputies responded to Wyatt Road at around 12:45 pm to a report of 48-year-old Michelle Hayes of Mayfield attempting to break into a home.

When deputies arrived, Hayes had reportedly left the home. One of Hayes' family members told police she was driving a black Lexus headed south on Central Road, and was under the influence of drugs. Officers said they learned that Hayes had taken the car without permission.

Deputies located Hayes on US 45 just inside the city limits of Mayfield after receiving a tip from a citizen. The caller reported that Hayes was entering into oncoming traffic at high rate of speed. Hayes made a U-turn upon meeting deputies on US 45. Deputies pursued Hayes into McCracken County at speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour.

Upon entering Lone Oak, McCracken County sheriff's deputies deployed stop sticks and were able to flatten three of Hayes' tires. The chase continued into Paducah, until McCracken County deputies were able to perform a PIT maneuver on Hayes as she was attempting to turn off Jefferson Street onto 31st Street. Her vehicle and the deputy's cruiser then caught fire, and she was taken into custody.

No one was hurt during the pursuit.

Hayes faces initial charges of 1st degree wanton endangerment, reckless driving, speeding, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and 1st degree fleeing and evading.
