Mayfield Woman Charged After Car Crashes into Tree

MAYFIELD - A Mayfield woman is facing charges following a crash on Wednesday.

The Mayfield Police Department said the wreck happened at Macedonia Street and Wilford Street. Officers said 30-year-old Kerrie Higgins was seen swerving all over the roadway, and she reportedly disregarded two stop signs before crashing into a tree.

The investigation revealed that Higgins was under the influence of drugs and had also tampered with evidence while in the presence of police. She was arrested and lodged in the Graves County Jail.

Higgins was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of controlled substance and tampering with physical evidence.

Higgins was later charged with theft by unlawful taking of controlled substances after the controlled substance she had in her possession at the time of her arrest were reported stolen by a family member. Police said Higgins was interviewed and admitted to the theft.
