According to the Graves County Sheriff's Office, the stabbing took place at around 2 am at a home on Millers Chapel Road. Forty-seven-year old Robert Douglas told police that his live-in girlfriend, Maria Williams, stabbed him with a butcher knife during a verbal fight.
Police said Douglas sustained several life-threatening wounds to his chest area and and had several minor wounds to his face. He was taken to Jackson Purchase Medical Center, then later transferred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.
Deputies said Williams admitted that she stabbed Douglas during the argument. She was arrested and charged with first degree assault. She was lodged in the Graves County Jail.
