The second annual Graves County  Empty Bowls event held Saturday at Trace Creek Baptist Church's Family Life Center, brought out a crowd of enthusiastic supporters who got to sample dishes donated by 20 local  participating restaurants. Diners then got to take their unique hand-painted bowls home as a reminder of the hungry people around the world and their own community.

The "big brunch" included door prizes and a silent auction.  Project Coordinator Claudia Heath said the event raised about $9,000 to benefit the Mayfield-Graves County Food Pantry, which provides emergency food supplies to local needy families.

The Empty Bowls project is part of an international movement started about 20 years ago to help alleviate hunger and raise awareness of hunger issues around the world.
