A single vehicle collision Monday night in Graves County has resulted in the death of a Mayfield man.

Graves County Sheriff Dewayne Redmon says deputies were dispatched to Highway 58 East near the Mayfield-Graves County Airport around 10 pm Monday. Deputies determined that 30-year-old Austin Sanderson had been driving east on 58 when he lost control of his car due to wet road conditions, and the speed at which he was driving.

Sanderson ran off the right side of the road and struck a driveway culvert, causing the vehicle to become airborne. The car landed in a yard and rolled over multiple times before coming to rest in a ditch.

Sanderson was transported to Jackson Purchase Medical Center by ambulance, where he was pronounced dead.

Officers say alcohol is a suspected factor in the collision.

The sheriff's department says neighbors in the area of the wreck assisted with searching the area for Sanderson, as well as by dousing a fire that started in the engine compartment of the car.
