By West Kentucky Star Staff
MURRAY, KY - The Murray-Calloway County Hospital has earned the grade of "A" for patient safety in the spring 2018 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade.

New Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades, which assign A, B, C, D and F letter grades to hospitals nationwide and provide the most complete picture of patient safety in the U.S., were announced today by The Leapfrog Group, a national patient safety watchdog. Murray-Calloway County Hospital received an “A” ranking distinguishing the hospital among the safest hospitals in the United States.

“I’m extremely excited to announce to you that our organization earned a sixth straight “A” rating from Leapfrog for our overall safety posture.  This is a great achievement for MCCH and shows the importance we continually place on patient safety,” said Jerry Penner, CEO at MCCH.

“It takes consistent, unwavering dedication to patients to achieve the highest standards of patient safety. An ‘A’ Safety Grade recognizes hospitals for this accomplishment,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We congratulate the clinicians, Board, management and staff of Murray-Calloway County Hospital for showing the country what it means to put patient safety first.”

Developed under the guidance of a Blue Ribbon National Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A, B, C, D and F grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
