A Murray man has been charged with arson after a fire early Tuesday morning.

According to the Murray Police Department, a fire was reported just after 1 am at a maintenance building in Coach Estates, just off South 16th Street. After the Murray Fire Department put out the blaze, evidence at the scene indicated a door to the building had been forced open and the fire had been intentionally set.

Police interviewed the person who reported the blaze, 22-year-old Matthew Kohlenberger of Murray, and found items that led them to believe he may have started the fire. Kohlenberger was taken to police headquarters and questioned, which led police to get an arrest warrant for him on charges of 2nd degree arson and 3rd degree burglary.

Police say during the investigation they found multiple tools and yard equipment that they believe are stolen but have not been reported. Anyone who has recently had items stolen should contact the police department at 270-753-1621.
