Murray Police Begin 'Click it or Ticket' Campaign

Starting Monday, the Murray Police Department will be taking part in the 2016 national Click it or Ticket seat belt enforcement campaign. 

Officers will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints throughout the City of Murray during this time. These checkpoints will be at designated areas on highways where statistics have shown an elevated number of vehicle crashes. During the checkpoints officers will be enforcing laws related to operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, licensing of motor vehicles and operators, registration and insurance violations, seat belt and child restraint violations, and motor vehicle equipment violations.  
 
Below is a list of traffic safety checkpoint locations that may be used during the Click it or Ticket campaign:

1. South 12th Street between Glendale Road and Murray City Limits
2. Main Street between 8th Street and 9th Street
3. Wilshire Drive between Bailey Road and Vasser
4. Glendale Road between 9th Street and 12th Street
5. Main Street between Industrial Road and the Murray City Limits
6. Chestnut at the intersection with 8th Street
7. U.S. 641 at Diuguid Drive
8. Doran at Holiday Drive
9. North 16th Street at the intersection with Olive Street
10. Highway 94 at the intersection of Doran Road
11. 4th Street between Sycamore St. and Murray City Limits
12. Olive Street between 6th and 12th streets
13.  North 16th Street between KY 121 and Diuguid Drive
14.  Bailey Road and KY 121

There were 761 total highway fatalities in Kentucky in 2015, with 588 killed in motor vehicles.  Of those 588 fatalities, 300 (61 percent) were not wearing a seat belt.
