Murray State University is launching the new Center for Adult and Regional Education, (CARE), to provide greater access and support for the unique needs of non-traditional learners.

CARE allows a renewed focus on the returning adult student who wishes to advance their career and improve their skills. In order to accommodate adult students with busy schedules, new programming will offer more convenience and lexibility at the University’s main campus in Murray, the regional campuses and beyond.

“The mission of CARE is to enhance our academic program offerings throughout the service region,” explained Mark Arant, provost and vice president for academic affairs. “Murray State University is committed to helping all students, including adult learners, achieve their dream of earning a college degree.”

CARE’s initiatives include new program offerings and services at the regional campuses and educational presences in Paducah, Hopkinsville, Madisonville, Henderson and Fort Campbell. Several new degree programs will be offered at some of the regional campuses beginning this fall, including the Bachelor of Science in Organizational Communication, Master of Science in Mass Communications and a ield of study in rural tourism and hospitality. The Center has started offering summer camp programs at the regional campuses as well.

CARE also serves as the academic home of military science; recreation and health care administration courses; the Associate of Arts in General Studies degree; and the Bachelor of Integrated Studies degree-completion program for returning adult students. Additionally, CARE will include centralized student support for online learning as well as non-credit community outreach,
summer camps and career education courses. Other programs include ROTC, the Training Resource Center and the Kentucky Transitional Assistance Program (KTAP).

“The creation of CARE is an opportunity for Murray State University to promote and develop lifelong learning opportunities for adult students throughout our service region and beyond,” said Dan Lavit, executive director for the Center. “How we serve the adult learner is to recognize the time and place restrictions that most non-traditional students have.” For more information about the Center for Adult and Regional Education, visit murraystate.edu/care or call 1-800-669-7654.
