Keith Todd with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said while traffic is flowing across the overpass, motorists should be aware that this is still a very active work zone.
Motorists can expect intermittent closures of the ramps that connect KY 80 to the parkway as a paving crew continues placing asphalt on the bridge approaches and works on tie-ins with the ramps to and from the parkway. Motorists should be alert for flaggers controlling traffic along the ramps to and from the parkway.
KY 80 traffic has a 35 mile per hour speed limit at the overpass and may have limited lane width due to restrictions required for the ongoing construction activity.
Construction and paving will be suspended after Friday, then they'll be back in the area after July 4th to continue work.
The opening of the overpass means construction will soon be ramping up along the Purchase Parkway between the 17 and 23 mile marker as work moves ahead on additional upgrades to allow Interstate 69 to be extended southward in the future.
This section of the Purchase Parkway continues to have a 55 mph work zone speed limit with enhanced enforcement and double fines for citations.
