New upgraded traffic signals were activated near Murray and Mayfield on Tuesday.

The upgraded signals at the intersection of Main Street and Robertson Road at the west edge of Murray is part of a larger Highway Safety Improvement Program project that also includes installation of a new signal at US 45/Key Bottom Road at the north edge of Mayfield.

That traffic signal - near the entrance to the old General Tire Plant  - will trigger only when drivers are in the turn lanes or on the side roads, and will greatly improve traffic flow through this area.

KYTC had studied the intersection since the plant's closure, and wait times were significant to turn onto Highway 45 from side roads. Upgrades were made to the signal since there was public support for keeping it.
