There will be no closure of the Cumberland River Bridge tonight.

According to the Keith Todd with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the contractor had planned to remove metal plates from the bridge deck tonight. However, the metal plates on the bridge deck will remain in place through the day on Monday with a continuation of the 15 mile per hour work zone speed limit.

Cold weather has slowed the curing process for new concrete poured on the bridge deck last night. The metal plates are being left in place through the overnight hours tonight to protect the concrete as it continues to cure.

The contractor and KYTC engineers are working on a plan to remove the steel plates once the concrete is fully cured while minimizing the impact on traffic.
