Mayfield's Northside Baptist Christian School Royals are the state basketball champions for KCSAA Division III.

In Louisville Saturday, the boys basketball team beat Oakdale Christian Academy of Jackson by a score of 71-47. The Oakdale Wildcats had the size advantage, and a psychological advantage, too, since they sent the Royals home from last years' State Tournament. They led the Royals early 5-2 but that turned out to be their only lead of the game. A scoring spree carried the Royals to a 15-8 lead at the end of the first quarter, and their lead at halftime swelled to 36-15.

Northside never let go of the lead in the second half. In spite of being outscored 18-13 by Oakdale in the fourth quarter, the Royals final margin of victory was 71-47. Northside Senior Gage Hobbs and Sophomore Jed Myskowski were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Northside began play in the Kentucky Christian School Athletics Association Division III State Tournament on Friday with wins of 57-50 over Grace Baptist Christian School from Madisonville and 74-57 over Cumberland HAT.

Northside is a small Christian School in Mayfield with 83 students in total enrollment. The Royals are made up of students from Northside and the regional homeschool community. The players are Drew Allen, Luke Chandler, Nathan Cochran, Jackson Futrell, Gage Hobbs, Jake Myskowski, Jed Myskowski, Nick Myskowski, Isaac Watson, Jonah Watson and Abe Wilson. They are coached by Kenny Jackson.
