Two western Kentucky officials fighting the closing of fishing waters near Barkley Dam are going to make their case in Washington, D.C.

The Paducah Sun reports Livingston County Judge-Executive Chris Lasher and Lyon County Judge-Executive Wade White are set to meet with Army Corps of Engineers Gen. Michael Walsh on Tuesday.

The two county leaders have tried to persuade Corps officials in Nashville, Tenn. They failed to make headway, so they're going up the chain of command over proposed closures to the head and tailwaters of Barkley.

The Corps announced dam water closures in mid-December. Barkley Dam closures would effectively close 400 feet above the dam and 500 feet below it. The waters directly above and below the dam are plentiful with fish and bring fishermen to the area.
