One Lane Traffic on Eggners Ferry Bridge
By Kentucky Transportation Cabinet
AURORA, KY - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is restricting traffic to one lane on the US 68/KY 80 Eggners Ferry Bridge at Aurora to allow an electrical crew to make temporary changes to the navigational lighting on the structure.
Motorists can expect to encounter one lane traffic with alternating flow controlled by flaggers. Caution is required where equipment, flaggers, and maintenance personnel are on the bridge deck in this work zone. Delays should be minimal, generally less than 4 minutes.
Electricians are temporarily altering the navigational lights to route barge traffic under Span “C” on the bridge. This is to allow geotechnical drilling near the Eggners Ferry Bridge main channel Span “B” to gather information that will aid in the ongoing design and eventual construction of a new bridge at the site.
A drilling rig is expected to start working near the bridge today and continue working in the area for about a month. The crew of the drilling rig will coordinate the temporary routing of tow boat traffic at the site with the US Coast Guard and Kentucky Transportation Cabinet as the drilling progresses.
The US 68/KY 80 Eggners Ferry Bridge is at US 68 Marshall County mile point 28.146 and Trigg County mile point 0.0 at the western entrance to Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area. The Bridge carries approximately 2650 vehicles across Kentucky Lake/The Tennessee River in an average day.
The bridge opened to traffic in March 1932.
