Two women face drug and other charges, after an early-morning police encounter in Benton.
According to the Marshall County Sheriff's Office, at around 2:20 am Sunday an officer stopped to check on a van that was parked at storage units on ky 408 in Benton. Police said there were two children in the back of the van, which had no seats. The driver, 53-year-old Sandra Thomas, of Benton reportedly gave a false name to officers. Police said they also found a hydrocodone pill in Thomas' pocket. It was later discovered that Thomas had an outstanding warrant out of Pike County. Police said they found a baggie of meth, marijuana and a pipe on Thomas' passenger, 33-year-old Amanda Duncan, of Eldorado, IL.
Thomas and Duncan were taken to the Marshall County Detention Center. Thomas faces charges of possession of a controlled substance and giving a false name to police. Duncan is charged with possession of a controlled substance 1st degree (Meth), possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The two children were taken in to protective custody until Social Services arrived. They were both eventually released to their parents.
