Dozens of people took the plunge this year despite icy conditions that created travel difficulties for some. Laura Miller with Special Olympics Kentucky said this year's event has raised more than $70,000 so far to benefit local Special Olympics athletes and programs, with many donations still to come.
"Right now we're at about $70,000. We expect that number to go up several thousand," Miller said. "Because of weather there were a lot of participants who registered who were not able to make it to us. So we hope that they will go ahead and send in their money. And then we always get a few more donations after the fact that come in and need to get tabulated."
Miller said the event raised $88,000 last year. She added that it could be a few weeks before they have a final total.
