The Murray Police Department is offering to help businesses and organizations evaluate the safety of their buildings when faced with an outbreak of violence.

The department says officers with several years of job experience and certifications related to active shooter training or firearm instruction can provide free security assessments by appointment.

Police would walk through a building and provide input on how to maintain safety, keep the building secure, or how to respond in life-threatening situations.

"Our main goal is to help our local facilities by providing some ideas of what can be done to help prevent a life threatening situation,” said Sgt. Brant Shutt. “We obviously hope that none of our ideas become necessary, but in the event something does occur, we hope they help provide some safety and awareness of what to do.”

Anyone who is interested in talking with the Murray Police Department about a free facility security assessment should contact Sgt. Brant Shutt at 270-753-1621.
