By West Kentucky Star Staff
BENTON - State Police have found an inmate that escaped from a work release in Benton and he is back in custody.

According to the Kentucky State Police, on Monday 40-year-old Robert W. Fritz of Louisville, walked away from a work release program at the Marshall County Animal Shelter.

State Troopers say the Marshall County Sheriff's Department responded to a report of a stolen vehicle about 8:00 pm Monday. This was near the area where Fritz was last seen. On Tuesday morning, the Sheriff's office was able to get notification from the vehicle's OnStar system, which indicated it was at a rest area off I-64 in Shelby County.

With help from the Shelby County Sheriff's Department, police say Fritz was found sitting in the stolen GMC pickup truck. He was taken into custody and is in the Shelby County Detention Center, where he faces multiple charges. He was also served with the Marshall County warrant for escape 2nd degree.
