Policy Group Endorses Local Republicans, Watkins
By WestKyStar Staff
CADIZ, KY - The Commonwealth Policy Center released its candidate endorsements for Kentucky State House and Senate Thursday, with Republican candidates getting their endorsements locally, except in the 3rd House District, where Democrat Gerald Watkins was endorsed instead of Republican Jason Crockett.
“Kentucky voters are pro-life, pro-family and fiscally conservative,” said Richard Nelson, the group’s executive director. “It’s time we have leaders in Frankfort who represent these values and our endorsements make it easier for voters to learn precisely who these candidates are.”
Altogether Commonwealth Policy Center endorsed 30 State House and four State Senate candidates who are committed to principles foundational to the Commonwealth’s success.
“We are a non-partisan organization dedicated more to conservative principles than we are to any one political party,” Nelson said. “We’ve endorsed Republicans, Democrats and Independents who are committed to protecting the unborn, religious freedom, and marriage between one man and one woman.”
Endorsed candidates also agreed to support sound economic policies and oppose gambling expansion. Each State House and Senate candidate was sent a questionnaire regarding their positions on the issues. Voting records, campaign contributions, previous positions, and personal history were also taken into consideration for endorsements.
The Commonwealth Policy Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the bedrock values of life, marriage and fiscal responsibility in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. It affirms as stated in the Kentucky Constitution that our civil, political and religious liberties come from God. To that end, it seeks to educate the general public, lobby the state legislature, and influence elections on behalf of conservative candidates.
