The Livingston County Jailer was contacted when a person noticed the device, and deputies responded about 1:00 pm to Chestnut Lake Road. When they determined that the item was suspicious, the Paducah Police Bomb Squad was notified and they immediately responded.
The road was closed while the device was investigated, and it was determined to be safe after about three hours. Samples of the device were taken and examined by the Bomb Squad and by the Sheriff's Department.
Livingston County Sheriff Bobby Davidson said, “These types of calls, can be very dangerous. We took every precaution to ensure the safety of all our citizens. I can’t thank the Paducah Police Department, especially their Bomb Squad, enough for their support. They responded immediately and professionally, and had the scene secured quickly and safely. The dedication of these officers, to suit up in that bomb suit in the excessive heat, is exemplary.”
The Sheriff’s Office will continue the investigation.
