Graves County Central Elementary School head custodian Matthew Powell recently was selected as one of only 16 classified school employees across the U.S. to take part in the National Education Association Leaders for Tomorrow program.

It is an intensive, hands-on leadership development program intended to train educational support professionals to be strong local leaders. The program is a three-session training process held over an eight-month period. It’s aimed at instilling in both current and future leaders attitudes, skills, and knowledge to enhance their ability to be visible and vocal advocates for public education at the local, state and national levels. The first session will take place in Minneapolis, Minn., July 19-23.

Powell recently accepted the position of head custodian at Central Elementary, after working at Graves County Middle School. He has been an employee of the Graves County School District since August 2007 and is a graduate of Graves County High School. He also serves as the Graves County Education Support Professional Association president, Kentucky Education Support Professional Association Board of Directors and as an individual member of the National Council for Education Support Professionals.
