Prescribed Burns In LBL Begin This Month
By WestKyStar and LBL Staff
GOLDEN POND, KY - The Forest Service anticipates conducting several prescribed burns at several sites at Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area beginning this month.

Approximately 940 acres have been selected for the planned burns, including Hillman Ferry Campground, Piney Campground, Homeplace 1850s Farm, and a portion of the Elk & Bison Prairie.

The burns are regularly implemented to reduce accumulation of dry fuels, and to recycle nutrients back into the soil.

Land Between the Lakes staff will notify media outlets on days when prescribed burns are scheduled. The use of fire is weather dependent. The right conditions will need to be in place to have a successful burn with the least smoke impact to surrounding communities.
