A couple of replica sailing ships returned to Grand Rivers and will be available for tours through the end of the month.

On Thursday the 'Pinta' and the 'Nina', replicas of Columbus' ships, docked at Green Turtle Bay Resort. The ships will be available for tours every day from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm through July 29th.

While in port, the public can take a walk-aboard, self-guided tour. Admission is $8.50 for adults, $7.50 for seniors and $6.50 for students 5-16 years old. Children 4 and under get in free.

The Nina was built by hand and without the use of power tools and is considered to be the most historically correct Columbus replica ever built. The 'Pinta' was recently built in Brazil and is a larger version of the archetypal caravel. Historians consider the caravel the Space Shuttle of the fifteenth century.

Reservations are not necessary for the public, but teachers or organizations wishing to schedule a 30-minute guided tour with a crew member should call 787-672-2152. Tours can also be requested on the ships' website at www.ninapinta.org. Click on 'Take a Tour' and fill out online form. A minimum of 15 people is required for the guided tour, with a cost of $5 per person. Email ninapintatour@gmail.com with any questions.
