According to the Calloway County Sheriff's Office, the wreck happened on US Hwy 641, just north of Hazel. Deputies said a semi truck loaded with 40,000 pounds of dry rice was traveling north on the highway when it left the road and overturned.
Deputies said the rice remained in the
trailer and had to be transferred by hand to another trailer before the
semi could be removed from the scene.
The truck had two occupants, a
driver and passenger. Police said the passenger was transported to
the Murray-Calloway County Hospital for treatment of injuries. Police did not release their names.
US Hwy 641 was blocked for through traffic from Midway Road to State Line Road in Hazel for several hours.
