Salem Woman Faces Assault Charges Involving Child

A Salem woman faces assault charges involving child abuse in Livingston County.

According to the Livingston County Sheriff's Department, deputies received a call from a family member who concerned about a 6-year-old boy in the care of 31-year-old Maranda Givens of Salem this past weekend.

The family member told deputies that they were concerned about his safety after noticing numerous long scratches on the boy's back.

Their investigation determined that the boy was had been scratched repeatedly by Givens, who is his step-mother.

From interviews conducted by deputies, they also determined that the scratching was done as a form of punishment.

Givens faces assault charges and was booked into the McCracken County Jail.
