Save Our Square will be having a meeting, Thursday May 7 at 7pm, at 111 South 7th Street in Mayfield. A petition calling on the Mayfield City Council to temporarily block demolition of the historic buildings on the south side of the courthouse square will be distributed at the meeting. Copies of the proposed historic preservation ordinance will also be available for people to read and comment on.

“After a lot of work behind the scenes, everything is in place to begin the process of protecting Mayfield’s historic legacy from destruction,” said meeting organizer Clayton Howe. “The public is welcomed and encouraged to come.”

Save Our Square is a grass-roots community organization in Mayfield that’s trying to stop the imminent demolition of the historic buildings on the south side of the courthouse square. Additionally, SOS is trying to encourage local leaders to pursue options for restoration of these buildings, part of a federally-designated historic district, as part of a plan to revitalize downtown Mayfield economically.
