The National Weather Service says we could get some severe thunderstorms as a system moves through the area this afternoon and tonight, and a flash flood watch continues through midnight.

The Storm Prediction Center has posted an enhanced risk of severe thunderstorms along and south of a line from Fulton, Hardin, Cadiz, Hopkinsville, and Elkton Kentucky. North of this area is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms (see map).

Severe thunderstorms will be possible, especially during the afternoon and evening hours on Saturday. The primary weather hazards will be for significant wind damage and possibly tornadoes. Large hail cannot be ruled out as well.

A wind advisory has been posted for after midnight tonight, along and north of a line from Perryville, Missouri to Marion, Illinois and Calhoun, Kentucky.

A flash flood watch and river flood warning continue as minor to major flooding continues on most area rivers, and areal flooding from recent heavy rains continues in some locations.

Three quarters of an inch to nearly two inches of rain will be possible in the flash flood watch area today and tonight. The highest totals should be along the Kentucky and Tennessee borders, with gradually lower amounts toward the Ohio River and the Missouri Bootheel.

The soil is more than saturated from previous flooding rains. Runoff will occur quickly and spur flash flooding.
