Two men are being sought in an investigation into an attempted robbery at a home south of Mayfield.

The Graves County Sheriff's Department says they responded about 12:20 pm to a home on State Route 1890, where a man said two black men had gained entry to the home while he was there. A few minutes later, he notified dispatch that the men had fled the scene in a white car.

When deputies arrived, the victim told them he had been in the front yard working on his lawn mower, but went inside the home for a moment. When he came back outside, the man saw a white car in his driveway with nobody in it. The victim said he then saw the two men in the garage, and as he approached, one came toward him with a knife while the other went inside the home.

The victim backed away until he got to his truck, where he grabbed fishing poles and used them to keep the man away until the second man came out of the house. Both men fled to the car while the victim grabbed a knife. As the men backed out of his driveway, the victim grabbed a hammer and hit the hood of the car on the driver's side, creating a dent. The car drove away, westward on Highway 1890.
